The thigh has three sets of strong muscles: the hamstring muscles in the back of the thigh, the quadriceps muscles in the front, and the adductor muscles on the inside. The quadriceps muscles and hamstring muscles work together to straighten (extend) and bend (flex) the leg. The adductor muscles pull the legs together.
The hamstring and quadriceps muscle groups are particularly at risk for muscle strains because they cross both the hip and knee joints. They are also used for high-speed activities, such as track and field events (running, hurdles, long jump), football, basketball, and soccer.

In English league the athletes injuries are observed my specialists. According that, average recovery time of football player after semitendinosus and semimembranosus injury is 23 weeks. In sprinters this time is 16 weeks. Improperly treated injuries cause injury relapse even in 30% patients. 

Soft tissues injuries of thigh occur in 10-55% all of the sport injuries. We know following injuries f soft tissues: enthesopathy, bruising, pull, strain or rupture. Enthesopathy based on stress, microinjuries or pull. 

Above injuries can be result of:
1. contact contusion (bruising) where soft tissues, blood vessels and bones are injured,
2. pull,
3. Concentric contractions,
4. Eccentric contraction,
5. Isometric contraction,
6. Sudden stopping move
7. Passive extension

Typical hamstring injury during sprint occurs when muscles go from eccentric contraction into concentric (knee flexion in 30o). According to researchers, 69-80% hamstring injuries relate to the biceps femoris.
