The knee joint is made of two main joints: tibiofemoral and patellofemoral. They connect tibia, femur and patella. Kneecap is a flat, mobile small bone which is maintained by e.g. patellar ligament. Patellar maltracking causes painful symptoms in front of the knee. What’s the reason of maltracking? First of all, quadriceps muscle imbalance is the main factor. When lateral vastus is tight, it “pulls” the kneecap together sideway and patella is out of alignment. It causes knee joint conditions and patellar chondromalacia.
