TECHNICAL SHEET

Treatment of shoulder dislocation in the acute phase and in the rehabilitative recovery of the first event. Prevention of dislocation and subluxation of the shoulder pre- and post-surgery in the context of anterior glenohumeral instability.

ELASTICATED STRAP to restrict external arm rotation and abduction to prevent dislocation and subluxation of the shoulder.

COMPRESSION VEST to promote transpiration and heat regulation for greater comfort.

STRAP FOR SUPPORT AND RETROPULSION
of the humeral head aimed at ensuring the correct position of the shoulder

COMBINED ZIPPER AND HOOK AND EYESYSTEM
for improved wearability.

MODE OF ACTION

Rather than impeding movement, thanks to its four innovative mechanisms of action the S2 restricts and controls external shoulder rotation and abduction, offering the patient a complete feeling of safety.

MITATION

The end section of the elasticated spiral strap (strap A) counteracts the abduction movement.

From a physical point of view, it acts in the same way as a series of levers, where:
1) the fulcrum (f) is represented by the centre of the humeral head;
2) resistance (R) is sited at the deltoid;/li>
3) power (P) is located at the tendinous insertions of the abductors of the humerus (supraspinatus and deltoid).

KEY: f = fulcrum – R = resistance – P = power

ATION LIMITATION

The elasticated spiral strap is fastened to the wrist and the opposite side of the chest. The centre of rotation is represented by the axis of the arm.

From a physical point of view:

1) F is the force exerted for external rotation of the arm versus its f axis. The moment around the fulcrum (f) is M=F*L, where L is the range of the limb;
2) The resistance R exerted by the strap causes internal rotation, whose moment versus f is M1=R*L;
3) The two moments (M and M1) are equal when the point of maximum permitted external rotation (end position) is reached, when F=R;
4) R increases as the elasticated spiral strap is tightened, thereby reducing the angle of external rotation.

KEY: f = fulcrum – F = force – R = resistance – P = power – M, M1 = moment – L = range of the spiral (range of the limb)

HUMERAL HEAD STABILISATION

The “hammock” strap (strap B), which passes under the armpit and is fastened to the opposite shoulder, exerts a pressure that pushes the humerus upwards and backwards, preventing anteroinferior dislocation.

SHOULDER MOBILITY

The compressive action of the fabric, together with the silicone edging of the mesh, encourage shoulder mobility.

FIRST FROM A SERIES OF PERSPECTIVES

The first item in the eKeep® line, the first product in the line to be patented, thus attesting to the degree of orthopaedic innovation: the first wearable brace.
S2 Shoulder Stabilizer® is the first brace for the prevention of shoulder dislocation to be worn like a sweater, enabling it to be used comfortably even underneath other items of clothing.
The brace is designed for use particularly in subjects affected by recurrent dislocation of the shoulder, frequently manifested in youths: such a painful event that the subject lives in fear of it recurring.

S2 Shoulder Stabilizer® protects the shoulder against movements placing it at risk of dislocation, thus enabling the subject to carry out, where possible and whilst awaiting surgery, routine tasks and moderate physical exercise, by controlling and regulating movements of abduction and extra-rotation.
Compared to the traditional braces present on the market that completely inhibit movement of the joint, S2 Shoulder Stabilizer® allows the subject increased laxity of the shoulder, promoting a correct range of movement and facilitating a normal daily routine.

HOW WAS THE S2 SHOULDER STABILIZER®PROJECT CONCEIVED?

The project was conceived following the observations made by a sports medicine physician and an orthopaedic, both specialists in surgery of the shoulder, who agreed that braces available on the market did not effectively meet the needs of patients.

Based on their clinical and surgical expertise, the two physicians hypothesized the development of a new brace for use in the prevention of dislocation of the shoulder. A collaboration was therefore set up with Dual Sanitaly, as the ideal partner, based on both experience and reliability, in the design and industrial-textile development of the project.
In view of the specialist expertise of a dedicated working group comprising, in addition to the two physicians, a biomechanical engineer, a textile chemist, and experts in scientific production and marketing, the prototype of the brace was finalised and tested on patients affected by dislocation of the shoulder, both those awaiting surgery or the newly-operated.
